Laurie Livingstone is a member of the Litigation Group in our Calgary office, focusing on complex commercial litigation, administrative law and appellate advocacy. She offers extensive experience representing corporations, directors, officers and shareholders in contract disputes, director and officer liability matters, and has also represented regulated companies in disputes regarding legislative interpretation. She also has experience advising political parties, religious organizations, universities, regulators, athletes, and sport associations on internal governance and discipline matters.

In addition to her courtroom work, Laurie is regularly called on to provide strategic advice on litigation and potential litigation, devil’s advocate services to pressure test litigation strategy, as well as strategic legal communications and crisis management advice in crisis situations and cases with high public profile. 

Laurie has appeared before the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench, the Court of Appeal of Alberta, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the New Brunswick Court of Queen’s Bench, the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the National Energy Board, the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada, and the Royal Commission of Inquiry Into the Sponsorship Program & Advertising Activities (the Gomery Commission). She has also made representations in writing to the Supreme Court of Canada and the California Court of Appeal.

Laurie began her legal career in our Toronto office and was a partner in the Calgary office of another national firm prior to returning to Cassels Brock.  In addition to her legal practice, Laurie recently served as a member of the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission and is presently a member of the Board of Directors of Calgary Legal Guidance.
